Astoria's Q300 is Aiming to Skype to Space

The 30th Avenue School in Astoria, a citywide gifted and talented school, we have been helping the school to prepare and apply for a NASA Downlink application so our children can Skype with the astronauts from the International Space Station.

St. John’s Prep: The Legacy Continues

The St. John’s Prep Board of Trustees celebrates the appointment of Ms. Nuala Martinez as the new President and Ms. Maria Johnson as the new Principal. Both women are outstanding educators who have served the St. John’s Prep Community in numerous roles: Ms. Martinez for 32 years as a math teacher, Math Chairperson and Assistant Principal for Administrative Affairs; Ms. Johnson for 34 years as a social studies teacher, Social Studies Chairperson and Assistant Principal of Student Life. Congratulations and best wishes have been continuously and enthusiastically expressed from students, parents, alumni and fellow educators. All are rejoicing and confident that St. John’s Preparatory School will continue to flourish under Ms. Martinez and Ms. Johnson’s leadership.

PS 90 Students Join Young People’s Chorus

MS 202 Debate Team Triumphs

The debate team from MS 202 in Ozone Park came in first place at the MSQI Debate School Championship Tournament, which took place at Brooklyn Law School on Thursday, June 13. Roberto Quesada finished in first place for the advanced tier, while Sajid Ibrahim finished in first place for the novice tier and Diana Diaz finished in first place for the bilingual tier. Also, Faith Buchanan finished in ninth place for the intermediate tier.

Christ the King Celebrates the Great Gatsby Era 2019

Students at Christ the King High School in Middle Village gathered in their glamorous “Roaring ’20’s” attire at the culmination of Ms. Mayer-Foley’s English class reading of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s  “The Great Gatsby.”

What a Home Run for PS 174 Students on Education Day

On Thursday, May 23, the fifth-graders at PS 174Q, The William Sidney Mount School in Rego Park, enjoyed a wonderful experience at Citi Field on Education Day. Not only did they watch the Mets game, but before the game began, they had so much fun on the field level catching free T-shirts, seeing Mr. G from Channel 11 News and even seeing their teachers on the Jumbo Tron!

The Mary Louis Academy Students Win Honors

Mariel, the student newspaper of The Mary Louis Academy, Jamaica Estates, took home a total of 12 awards including the big win for General Excellence at The Tablet’s annual High School Press Awards ceremony on May 10.  The awards ceremony honored some of the outstanding journalism in school newspapers from five local high schools. TMLA robotics team 3204 has turned a fun team program into successful competition at the NYC FIRST Championships.  Back in April, TMLA’s FIRST robotics team competed in the New York Regional Competition.

PS 97Q Supports Beautiful Me & Students with Epilepsy

Four very dedicated staff members of PS 97Q, The Forest Park School, have become trained instructors for the Beautiful Me program, which honors the lives of three beautiful sisters ensuring healthy, happy and safe children through innovative self-esteem educational programming and the support of children in need. PS 97Q also took the time to celebrate dads and male role models for an art activity supporting epilepsy.

Our Lady of Grace Cathlolic Academy performs "The Wizard of OLGCA"

The students of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy in Howard Beach performed a production of “The Wizard of OLGCA,” a mash-up of “The Wizard of Oz” and “Wicked.”

Richmond Hill HS Happenings

Richmond Hill High School junior Cindy Lochan’s watercolor painting, right, was selected by the Queens Borough Student Arts Festival to be exhibited by the Dept. of Education in the Queens Museum on May 7. The festival is sponsored by Chancellor Carranza and the NYCDOE and will feature a visual arts exhibition and performances by students from several schools. Principal Neil Ganesh congratulated art teacher Ms. Sheridan for spending her time and effort to guide Cindy Lochan. A photo of Ms. Lochan’s watercolor is shown.

Flushing Christian School's Navigators Win National Geo Challenge

Students from across the country gathered at National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, DC, last week to compete in the first Geo Championships, the combined competitions of the National Geographic GeoBee and National Geographic GeoChallenge. A team of four fifth-graders from the Flushing Christian School earned the Grand Prize in the Geo Challenge!

Newtown High School "Arts Week" - Sidewalk Art

On May 21, Newtown High School kicked off “Arts Week” with its annual Sidewalk Art Day. This has become an event the school and community look foward to every spring. Art teachers Mr. Feigelis, Ms. Pati and Ms. Raneri were happy the weather was perfect for the students to create their artwork. This will be Mr. Feigelis’ last exhibit since he announced his retirement.

Thomas Edison High School SkillsUSA Team Wins Four Gold Medals

After participating in the NYC Regionals SkillsUSA Competition, the medalist alongside some other competing members of the SkillsUSA chapter at Thomas A. Edison Career and Technical High School traveled to Syracuse, New York from April 24 to 27 to compete in the prestigious NYS SkillsUSA Competition.
