Parts of the west section of Forest Park began to close over the past week as the Parks Department began construction on a pedestrian and bike path connecting Glendale to the side adjacent to Woodhaven.

The nearly $4 million project will create a path that will slice through the section of park just east of the Forest Park Golf Course on the western half of the park from the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and Forest Park Drive to the Seuffert Bandshell Parking Lot.

All but one city-run recreation center in Queens will reopen Sept. 13, and the city is offering free one-year memberships to celebrate.

The announcement came from the Parks Department Tuesday after most centers have been closed for 17 months.

Queens is getting back in step.

The Making Moves Dance Festival, presented by the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning, will return to an outdoor stage at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center, 153-10 Jamaica Ave., at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 and 18.

The Howard Beach Dads Facebook group will host a family handball tournament from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 25 at Walter Ward Playground,159-15 88 St.

Teams of two can sign up for $40 each. The event, sponsored by Empanada on the Rise, will also include a basketball clinic and a free karate class for kids and arts and crafts.
