Queens is home to a largenumberof ethnic restaurants of widely varying quality. Many have authentic fare, while some offer decent lunch or dinner entrees at a reasonable price. Quite a few put enough food on your plate to choke a horse so that you end up taking half of your order home in a doggie bag.

But it’s pretty rare to find a restaurant that offers all three things: great food overflowing your plate at a price that will have you leaving the restaurant with a debate in your mind over which was more satisfying — the food or the cost.

One such restaurant is Joe and Nick Villaggio Gourmet Pizza and Restaurant on Cooper Avenue in Glendale. Every day is a holiday at this place; they offer a different lunch special daily for only $7.95. One day it’s saucy and succulent chicken cacciatore with yellow rice and salad; the next day it could be savory sausages and peppers, creamy penne ala vodka or a homemade meaty lasagna. End your meal with one of their luscious desserts like tiramisu and you’ll be sure to return often.

After dinner, depending on the night on which you choose to dine, you can follow dessert with a turn on the dance floor to a Latin or Italian beat in the new party room, or take your turn at the microphone for an evening of karaoke. Bring the entire family or a group of friends and create your own party for a feast and fun.

If there is only one reason why the food is so good at Villaggio, it would have to be the fact that the owners are Italian immigrants who were born in Palermo, Sicilyand Salerno. Armed with centuries-old family recipes and a love for creating delicious dishes, they have succeeded in bringing a little taste of Italy and their penchant for celebrations to Glendale for all to enjoy. And the service is so impeccable, you will feel as though you are dining at a treasured friend’s home. So go to Villaggio with your big appetite and mangia!

Villaggio is open seven days and is located at 79-76 Cooper Ave., just half a block from the Shops at Atlas Park. Their phone number is (718) 326-1832.
