The St. John’s Prep Board of Trustees celebrates the appointment of Ms. Nuala Martinez as the new President and Ms. Maria Johnson as the new Principal. Both women are outstanding educators who have served the St. John’s Prep Community in numerous roles: Ms. Martinez for 32 years as a math teacher, Math Chairperson and Assistant Principal for Administrative Affairs; Ms. Johnson for 34 years as a social studies teacher, Social Studies Chairperson and Assistant Principal of Student Life. Congratulations and best wishes have been continuously and enthusiastically expressed from students, parents, alumni and fellow educators. All are rejoicing and confident that St. John’s Preparatory School will continue to flourish under Ms. Martinez and Ms. Johnson’s leadership.

Complimented and appreciative about the overwhelmingly positive response, Ms. Martinez and Ms. Johnson are passionately committed to continuing and promoting the Vincentian Mission as they prepare to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of St. John’s Prep (1870-2020). They will continue the spirit of St. Vincent de Paul that already exists within the St. John’s Prep Community – a true dedication to individual respect, an unwavering sense of love for all and a deep commitment to charity and service. Well known for its positive learning environment, St. John’s Prep’s students enjoy their classes, work hard, appreciate the exciting curriculum and look forward to each school day. Every aspect of the SJP community reflects St. Vincent’s dynamic charisma.

Ms. Martinez and Ms. Johnson have followed his teachings and have dedicated their lives to embracing and to affirming the dignity of their students. Their goals are clear in preparing students to be leaders not only in academic excellence but also, and more importantly in faith, values, integrity and service. Their teaching lives have been dedicated to creating students’ success, establishing students’ path to happiness and building students’ confidence. They have always encouraged this nurturing and supportive atmosphere with a vision to students’ life-long purpose and success. They will continue to work as a team as they develop new and engaging programs in areas of technology, science, mathematics and research. They have already begun plans for expanding STEAM programs, enriching present curricula and creating effective and supportive ways of meeting individual student needs.

Members of the Board of Trustees look forward to working closely with Ms. Martinez and Ms. Johnson to insure great success. Ms. Martinez emphasized that, “She intends to establish new sources of revenue, to create and to encourage vibrant alumni participation, to develop strong lasting partnerships and to seek opportunities for future academic advancement and growth.” Ms. Johnson is committed to graduating transformative leaders who will make a difference in our world. She stated that, “The legacy of a St. John’s Prep education is the development of a deep and abiding sense of faith, the creation of a school culture that is welcoming and supportive of all students and serves as the inspiration for a life-long journey of learning.” Ms. Martinez and Ms. Johnson graciously extend an open invitation to all who wish to learn more about the spirit, the opportunities and the joy of St. John’s Preparatory School.
