A 36-year-old Queens karate teacher has been charged with raping a 12-year-old girl he was teaching, prosecutors said last Wednesday.
Hector Quinchi, who taught at Hugo’s Tae Kwon Do Studio on Skillman Avenue in Sunnyside, faces up to 25 years in prison. He allegedly fondled and sexually contacted the victim in other ways between Aug. 15 and Oct. 5, when she was raped.
“The parents of this youngster trusted the defendant to teach the girl how to defend herself,” acting Queens District Attorney John Ryan said in a statement. “Sadly, the preteen needed protection from the karate instructor.”
Quinchi was charged with first-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child.
“The defendant now faces a lengthy term of incarceration if convicted of these crimes,” Ryan added.
If there are others who believe their child may have been victimized by the defendant, they are asked to call the NYPD Child Abuse Squad at (718) 261-2737.
According to Quinchi’s Facebook page, he’s a Queens native.
