City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer announced on Twitter on Thursday that he’s running for Queens borough president in 2021.

“I’ve got exciting news to share & I want to share it with you first,” Van Bramer said. “On May 5th, I plan to announce that I am officially running for #Queens Borough President! Please join me & my husband Dan for this history-making moment.”

The lawmaker, who has served on the Council since 2010 and was the deputy leader for several years, will be term-limited out after his current term, along with the vast majority of his colleagues.

Borough President Melinda Katz will also be term-limited out then. She is now running for Queens district attorney, for which the election will be held in 2019.

Elections for both positions are held every four years.

Van Bramer, who worked for the Queens Library before winning his seat, heads the Council’s Committee on Cultural Affairs, Libraries and International Relations.

His husband is the environmental activist Dan Hendrick, who previously served in this writer’s position at the Queens Chronicle, more than 10 years ago. The pair live in Sunnyside.
