The official ribbon cutting for Kandela, a modern Mexican restaurant in Ozone Park, came as the sun began to set over Howard Beach last Monday, Nov. 4.

The owners, celebrity chef David Arias, left, Thomas Caliendo and Michael Siderakis, were joined by state Sen. Joe Addabbo Jr. in front of the restaurant at 150-03 Cross Bay Blvd.

Arias — a Bolivian chef, trained in Italian cooking at Abboccato and the W Hotel in Manhattan — seems to have the perfect credentials for a Spanish-influenced restaurant on the border of Howard Beach and Ozone Park.
