Women cadets from the United States Military Academy at West Point were on hand at the US Open last Saturday to carry a tennis-court-sized American flag for the national anthem ceremonies prior to the women’s singles championship match that saw Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu defeat crowd favorite Serena Williams in straight sets.

After the anthem, the U.S. Army’s future leaders repaired to the plaza outside Arthur Ashe Stadium at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to properly refold Old Glory, drawing interest and applause from the crowd, never faltering even in a difficult wind.
