Community Board 4 voted 22-1 on an application submitted by the LSS Leasing Limited Liability Company on Tuesday night during its monthly meeting.

It will allow the LeFrak City Plaza garage on Junction Boulevard and Horace Harding Expressway to have 706 parking spaces, including 356 self-park spaces and 350 attended parking spaces on the ground floor.

There would also be a protected mesh over the lot and the number of bike spaces would be increased.

“We were actually surprised there was a no,” said District Manager Christian Cassagnol. “We don’t know where that came from.”

He added, “I’m not going to say it was a no-brainer but it was somewhat of a no-brainer.”

Cassagnol also said there was a misconception that the changes would raise rents in the area because of Major Capital Improvement but he said it’s not the case.

“It’s a municipal lot separate from the actual buildings,” Cassagnol said.

The plan needs approving every 50 years, according to Cassagnol.

He said back in 1968 it was set up to take 870 parking spaces but there was no use for them.

Tuesday’s meeting was the final for CB 4 before breaking for summer.

Welcome to the discussion.
