Someone should've told him: Robbers are supposed to put on the masks before they point the gun at the employee behind the counter — not after.
But surveillance video released by the NYPD shows half of an armed robber duo making exactly that mistake.
The duo hit four spots in Corona and Willets Point last month, police said. The NYPD is asking for the public's help to identify the men.
Rolling up in a black Mercedes Benz on Oct. 3 around 6:15 p.m., the crooks went up to a 49-year-old man in front of Happy Auto Repair Body at 126-50 Northern Blvd. in Willets Point, and one took out a gun. They demanded his wallet — which had about $150 and his driver's license — and took it. The victim wasn't hurt.
They struck again in the Iron Triangle the next day around 4 p.m. That time. they approached two men — both in their 50s — inside Discount Mufflers at 126-01 38 Ave., directly across the street from Citi Field.
One pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victims' heads, demanding the money. The duo made off with keys, a cell phone and $151. No one was hurt.
An hour later, the duo robbed a smoke shop at 41-02 102 St. in Corona. They came in, one displayed a gun, racked its slide and threatened to kill the employee there. The victim complied; the crooks took about $180 from the cash register. No injuries were reported from the incident.
On Oct. 30 around 6:30 p.m., they went up to a 64-year-old man working inside a convenience store at 111-29 Roosevelt Ave. in Corona. One again took out the gun and demanded money, making off with about $100. No one was hurt.
Anyone with information that could help unmask the men is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit tips by logging onto nypdcrimestoppers.com, or by texting 274637 (CRIMES), then entering TIP577. All tips are strictly confidential.
