The NYPD is asking for the public's help to nab two men who tried to burglarize an Auburndale home in April.

Around 11:40 a.m. on April 19, a pair wearing construction worker outfits rang the doorbell to a residence on 189th Street between 42nd Avenue and Station Road, cops said.

No one answered. The men then went into the backyard, with one of them climbing an awning and unsuccessfully trying to break into the home through a second floor window, as surveillance footage provided by the NYPD shows.

So, the perps broke a first floor window — but they didn't go unnoticed. A 34-year-old woman inside the home, who had been asleep moments before, screamed at the two crooks.

They then ran from the property, as video from the scene shows, heading south to 42nd Avenue where they fled in a gray Nissan Quest mini-van.

Police describe the men as having slim builds. At the time of the crime, the would-be burglars were wearing hard hats, masks, boots and reflective jackets — one had a green one on, the other an orange one.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1 (888) 57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit tips by logging onto nypdcrimestoppers.com, or by texting 274637 (CRIMES), then entering TIP577. All tips are strictly confidential.
