Trattoria 35 is a top spot for Italian eats 1

Trattoria 35 at 213-15 35 Ave. in Bayside does a delicious take on cavatelli, inset, and other Italian staples.

Just ask Taylor Swift, Edgardo Alfonzo or Burt Young, a few of the big names who have dined there.

Trattoria 35 does Italian cuisine right.

In the 14 years since it opened, the Bayside restaurant has built up a strong base of regulars. Driving it is a business philosophy that puts the customers above everything.

“It’s all about family with us,” owner Michael Molinari told the Chronicle. “It’s all about clientele.”

Customers entering the 213-15 35 Ave. restaurant talk to him like an old friend.

“It’s about people — when they come here, they love it because they feel at home,” he said.

But it’s also about the food, Molinari added. And no matter what customers are in the mood for — pasta, brick-oven pizza, seafood, salad — they’ll find plenty to love on the menus for lunch and dinner.

One of Trattoria 35’s most popular dishes is the cavatelli con salsiccia. With its delicious cream and delectable combination of asparagus tips, sausage and tomato, the meal is a great choice for folks trying the restaurant out for the first time.

Another top-notch pasta dish that Molinari recommends is one named after him: “Rigatoni alla Michael,” which has a heavy meat sauce capped with warm ricotta. Customers also can’t go wrong with the mouthwatering homemade gnocchi alla caprese.

The chicken Vesuvio is one of the excellent entree options. Enhancing its flavor are seasonal, sauteed mixed vegetables.

“Le Parmigiane” — an amalgam of veal, eggplant and chicken parmesan — hits the spot, too.

Antipasti fans won’t be disappointed at Trattoria 35, either. Adventurous foodies should go for the grilled marinated octopus dish, “Polpo alla Griglia.”

The grilled specialties menu is a gem. It offers a scrumptious salmon, served with mixed vegetables and a delicious lemon sauce. There is also the stellar skirt steak, which comes with a unique mix of spices as well as onions, peppers and mushrooms.

For dessert, head chef Carlos Fernandez recommends the tiramisu.

Folks who want to order from the restaurant can do so using Uber Eats or DoorDash. On-site, it offers event packages and hosts private parties with on-premises catering on its second floor, which has an outdoor terrace and an elevator going up to it.

The restaurant, which has gluten-free menu items, also does off-premises catering. Those interested in catering for events with 30 or more people are asked to call at least two weeks in advance.

Trattoria 35’s phone number is (718) 352-3800; it’s online at trattoria35.com. It is open between 11 a.m. and 9:45 p.m. from Monday through Thursday and between 11 a.m. and 10:45 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
