Kin’d, a Thai restaurant on Union Turnpike at 192nd Street in Fresh Meadows, is new in town. But after only about two months of operating, it already has a following.

“We have a lot of regular customers coming back,” Siriwan Srisawadi, one of the eatery’s owners, told the Chronicle. Reservations are recommended to get a table on the busy weekends.

“Everybody here was born in Thailand,” said Srisawadi, who hails from the country. “We know how the food should taste like.”

The family-friendly spot’s menu, which features strong gluten-free and vegetarian options, covers a wide range of Thai fare.

Ordering the garlic noodles — a tasty dish with egg, scallions and bean sprouts — is a great way to get to know the restaurant.

As with all of Kin’d’s noodle entrÈes, customers get to pick what kind of meat they’d like with the dish. With the garlic noodles, chicken is an excellent choice: It excellently complements the meal’s many flavors.

Kin’d, which uses nutritious herbs in its food, does a delicious pad Thai. A staple of Thai food, the noodle dish is a great choice for those trying the cuisine for the first time.

Those more experienced with the cuisine will find plenty of interesting options at the Union Turnpike spot: The menu has soups, salads, sauteed entrÈes, curry dishes, tasty desserts and a unique set of specials.

The massaman curry avocado is a rich mix of tastes. Peanuts, onions and potatoes come together in a unique blend that’s sure to please fans of Thai food. It’s one of the milder dishes on Kin’d’s curry menu.

One of the most popular entrÈes at the restaurant, according to Srisawadi, is the drunken noodles. The meal features a spicy sauce and is served with sauteed flat rice noodles or with udon, bell pepper, egg, tomato, basil and onions.

Some meals on the menu are marked with a red circle denoting their spiciness. If customers see an option that looks too spicy but that they would otherwise want, Srisawadi said, they can ask their waiter to have the dish prepared so it tastes less fiery.

The restaurant has been a hit with St. John’s University students, she added. Kin’d is a short ride on the Q46 bus from the campus. The business also does catering; those interested are urged to call at least three days in advance. Deliveries — there’s a $10 minimum for ones within the area — and takeout are available, too.

Lunch specials — entrÈes, salads and appetizers — are served every day from noon to 4 p.m. Dinner specials like shrimp avocado curry and crispy duck basil are available between 5 and 10 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and between 5 and 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Kin’d is located at 192-03 Union Tpke., its phone number is (718) 468-5900, and its menu can found online at kindthai.com.
