A 65-year old man was killed after being hit by a car on Main Street by 58th Avenue in Flushing on Wednesday night, according to the police.

The man — who was not identified because his family had not yet been notified of his death — was found by police lying in the street with head trauma after they responded to a 911 call around 11:35 p.m. The victim was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens by EMS; he was pronounced dead there.

It was determined by the NYPD's Highway District's Collision Squad that the man was trying to cross Main Street from west to east just below the crosswalk. After stopping on the double yellow line, he stepped backwards into the lane for southbound cars.

He was hit by a 2002 Dodge Caravan, the driver of which remained at the scene of the incident. No arrests have been made and the investigation has not concluded.
