An Auburndale man allegedly beat his father to death with a steering wheel lock Friday night.

Dimitrios Safetis, 19, has been charged with manslaughter, assault and criminal possession of a weapon in the killing of Ioannis Safetis, 57, police said. Both lived at 40-41 190 St.

Published reports said the younger Safetis killed his father with the device, commonly known by the trade name The Club, during a drunken argument.

The killing happened at 47-05 Utopia Parkway. Police responded there to a call of an assault in progress at about 9:30 p.m. They found the victim unconscious and unresponsive, with head trauma and scratches on his face. Emergency Medical Services transported him to New York-Presbyterian/Queens hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The 111th Precinct, within which the killing occurred, saw no murders last year and has not seen any yet this year, according to NYPD CompStat figures, but those do not list manslaughter. There were six felony assaults reported in the precinct through the end of January this year, compared to two up until the same point last year. Fifty-eight felony assaults were reported in all of 2015.
