St. Albans death a homicide

The Aug. 22 death of a St. Albans woman has officially been classified as a homicide, the NYPD announced Monday morning.

Janice Matthews, 66, of 172nd Street was found unconscious in her home shortly after 8 p.m. on Aug. 22 with a serous neck injury.

The New York Daily News reported that her neck had been slashed. The paper also quoted police sources as saying there was no sign of forced entry or a struggle.

According to the NYPD, Matthews was unresponsive when she was found by officers from the 113th Precinct. Matthews was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

Police said there have been no arrests and that the department’s investigation is continuing.
