Something’s cookin’ 1

Emmy Award-winning celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich, center, had a recent visit with culinary students at August Martin High School in Jamaica.

Bastianich, a native of Italy, hosts “Lidia’s Kitchen” on Create TV. Her visit was arranged through The Child Center of NY, which has programs at August Martin.

Chef Lidia worked with the students and their regular instructors to create a pair of appetizers— beef bruschetta with arugula and homemade spicy giandiniera, and a cheesy zucchini crostata.

The students, in a close vote, then selected the bruschetta to be prepared and featured at The Child Center’s annual gala, set for May 14 at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan.
