Retired Queens Judge Laura Blackburne, right, swore in the officers of Federated Blocks of Laurelton in a recent ceremony.

Robert Glover, not shown, also was sworn in to a second two-year term as the civic group’s 12th president.

The civic group was founded in 1972 by citizens who wanted to fight plans by developers to convert storefronts into apartments. Glover, in a message on the group’s website, said the organization’s priorities will continue to include neighborhood beautification, the installation of more curbs where needed, and working with the city and neighborhood merchants to keep the Merrick Boulevard corridor clean.

Welcome to the discussion.
