Jamaica’s Down to Earth Farmers Market had some tips on selecting and preparing healthy food last Friday at the pedestrian plaza on Parsons Boulevard by the Parsons-Archer Avenue subway station.

Above, Chef Sia Pickett sautes a dish made from zucchini, squash, lemon and basil she purchased from farmers at the market.

At center, SOMOS, a network of doctors who serve low-income new Yorkers, handed out free recipes using seasonal produce, and also distributed NYC Healthy Bucks, $2 vouchers from the city’s Department of Health that can be used to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables.

At right, residents and these just passing by stop to pick up the night’s meal or just a snack.
