Three men died and four FDNY responders were injured in a medium-sized fire in St. Albans within the 113th precinct late Thursday, Nov. 21.

Engine 301/Ladder 150 responded to a residential fire inside a vacant building at 110-51 Farmers Blvd at 11:51 p.m. The heavy fire started in the basement, and was categorized as a two-alarm blaze.

The rescue team discovered three unidentified adult males, unconscious and unresponsive, within the building. EMS pronounced the three men deceased at the scene.

The FNDY got the flames under control at approximately 1:45 a.m. Four firefighters sustained minor injuries in the battle, and were sent to North Shore University Hospital, said a Fire Department spoksperson.

A Pix11 story said neighbors in the area believed the deceased men to be squatters, since power has not been supplied to the home for two years. The fire spokesman could not confirm that the men were vagrants, but suspected they may have been because the building has been empty for a number of years. A Department of Buildings database shows that a partial vacate order has existed on the property since 2013 due to failure to comply to correct violations.

The investigation remains ongoing; the fire marshal will determine the cause of the blaze and the medical examiner will determine the cause of death of the three men, the NYPD said.
