Voters in this fall’s special election to fill the vacancy in the 29th Assembly District have two scheduled debates at which they can see the two candidates square off.

The Jamaica Branch of the NAACP will sponsor the first forum between Democrat Alicia Hyndman and Republican Scherie Murray on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Majority Baptist Church in St. Albans. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. also are sponsors.

A second debate is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Family Life Center at 172-17 Linden Blvd. in St. Albans. Sponsors include the Addisleigh Park Civic Association, Brinkerhoff Action Association, Illion Area Block Association, the St. Albans Chamber of Commerce, St. Albans Civic Association, St. Albans Congregational Church and the Triangular Civic Association.

Hyndman lives in Laurelton. Murray is from Rosedale.

They are running to fill the unexpired term of former Assemblyman Bill Scarborough who resigned in May as part of a plea bargain resolving federal and state corruption charges.
