The city Department of Transportation will begin camera enforcement for traffic violations on the Q44 Bronx-Flushing-Jamaica Select Bus Service route, the agency announced in a March 2 statement.

To make sure that drivers are aware of the policy, the department had for more than 60 days merely been giving warnings for violations seen by its cameras.

A $115 fine will be given to motorists occupying the bus route during the designated hours. Because the violations are issued against the vehicle, the driver will not lose license points for a violation.

The Q44 Bronx-Flushing-Jamaica Select Bus Service is not the first route to undergo automated camera enforcement. It exists for the M34, along the 34th Street SBS corridor; the S79 along the Hylan Boulevard-Richmond Avenue SBS corridor; the B44 along the Nostrand Avenue and Rogers Avenue SBS corridor; the M60 along the 125th Street SBs corridor; the Bx12 along the Fordham Road SBS corridor.

The DOT statement added that the camera policy would also come to other bus routes throughout the city.
