A woman found dead on Thursday in a Steinway Street apartment was the victim of a homicide, police announced Monday.

The victim, 28, was discovered on the second floor of 25-55 Steinway in Astoria, above a fast-food establishment on the commercial and residential strip. Police responded to the location at about 1:20 p.m. after someone called 911 to report a foul odor coming from the one-room apartment where the victim was found. Her identity is being withheld pending family notification.

The woman was lying on the floor with lacerations to her chest, police said, reporting that there were no signs of forced entry. They said the investigation into her death is ongoing.

Anyone with information may call the 114th Precinct or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1 (888) 57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit tips by logging onto nypdcrimestoppers.com, or by texting 274637 (CRIMES), then entering TIP577. All tips are strictly confidential.
