Reunited and it feels so good.
The Forest Hills High School Rangers defeated Grand Street Campus 65-54 last Sunday afternoon in the Irwin Isser Thanksgiving Basketball Classic. Several former players returned. Isser played at Forest Hills and then coached the team for more than 30 seasons, leading the team to a PSAL Division “B” title in 1978. He won more than 400 games from the mid-1960s through 1998.
At the classic were Dawan Gary, rear, a forward on the 1998 team that was runner-up in the PSAL Class A division and won 24 games, physical education teacher Scott Schenker, left, head coach and former player Ben Chobhaphand, Isser, High School Basketball Illustrated editor and publisher Tom Konchalski, 1963 All-City guard Jay Warhaftig and former player Anthony Dulin, who previously served on Chobhaphand’s coaching staff at Forest Hills and LaGuardia Community College and is the women’s coach at ASA College.
