A bump on the stairs turned into a slashing Thursday morning at Kew Gardens-Union Turnpike subway station, and police ask your help in finding the knife man.

At approximately 7 a.m. a 19-year-old man was walking down the staircase at the station when he inadvertently bumped into an unidentified male. A verbal dispute ensued — then the suspect produced a knife and slashed the victim on the right hand and upper left arm before fleeing in an unknown direction.

The victim then took the train downtown because he didn't want to miss his college class, according to police. Once in Manhattan, he called 911 and checked into NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital in stable condition.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 577-TIPS (8477), or, for Spanish, 1 (888) 57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit tips by logging onto nypdcrimestoppers.com, or by texting 274637 (CRIMES), then entering TIP577. All tips are strictly confidential.

UPDATE: This article was updated to include information about the victim's activities after the incident.
