Katz running for Queens DA

Borough President Melinda Katz

Queens Borough President Melinda Katz will announce her candidacy for Queens District Attorney at a press conference scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

Katz, 53, is the third announced candidate seeking to replace District Attorney Richard Brown, who has held the post since 1991.

City Councilman Rory Lancman (D-Fresh Meadows) and recently retired Queens Supreme Court Justice Gregory Lasak also have begun campaigning.

Katz is scheduled to make her announcement at McDonald Park in her native Forest Hills.

Katz is in her second term as borough president, having first been elected in 2013.

She served in the state Assembly from 1994 to 1999, and in the City Council from 2002 to 2009.
