Cop of the month honored 1

Police Officer Sean Barnwell was honored as Cop of the Month at last Wednesday’s 112th Precinct Community Council meeting, celebrating here with Capt. Jonathan Cermeli, left, the precinct’s commanding officer, Heidi Chain, president of the 112th Precinct Community Council, and NYPD Chief of Transportation Thomas Chan.

Cermeli said in April 2018, the precinct received a report of graffiti on a mosque on Queens Boulevard. Police had been seeing an increase in criminal mischief complaints involving graffiti with the same tag: Baker or Baker MTA.

Barnwell, the precinct’s graffiti coordinator, investigated the tag and identified the man after months of work. Barnwell followed him on social media.

Cermeli said, “We noticed that the perpetrator was writing graffiti on NYPD vehicles throughout the city and Department of Correction vehicles throughout the city and posting this on social media.”

Authorities found the suspect upstate and he was eventually arrested on multiple charges throughout the city.
