Even in death, Bishop Joseph Sullivan will always live on in Middle Village.

The corner of Eliot Avenue and 71st Street outside Our Lady of Hope Parish was conamed for Sullivan — who founded the church in 1960 — in a Saturday ceremony attended by members of clergy, area residents and Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley.

“When Bishop Sullivan is remembered or spoken of in this community, we only hear fond and warm memories,” Crowley said of the Brooklyn native who died in 2013. “It is only right to display his name on this very corner, where he spent Sunday after Sunday for more than half a century.”

The 83-year-old died on June 8, 2013 of serious injuries he suffered in a car accident two weeks earlier.
