I applaud Community Board 9's resolution to appose legalizing currently illegal dwellings, whether they be basement or otherwise. While affordable housing has always been an issue in NYC, and always will be, placing innocent families lives in danger, as well as our public servants who protect us, is not the answer.
Time and again we see that overcrowded residences have led to fires and health issues that affect entire streets and communities. Much of the infrastructure in these residences are 50+ years old and not equipped for the physical drain placed on them. Not to mention the public services like police, sanitation and healthcare that are currently being strained. When was the last time you heard about a hospital being OPENED in Queens, rather than being closed?
Until there is a feasible plan to deal with affordable housing, let's not just do something stupid just to attain some arbitrary campaign promise number.1 month ago
When went to the information table, and they couldn't find my AD/ED, they too told me I was probably at the wrong voting place. I insisted that they look up my address again and they did find it. And this was early in the morning.
One way to help alleviate these issues is if the state allowed multiple-day or weekend voting. It would allow people to get their act together and not be frustrated out of voting.Sep 20, 2012
While I praise Mr. Adorno for his love and dedication to civic life in New York City, Assemblyman Miller has worked tirelessly for the community of Woodhaven. He is available by phone 24/7 - literally - he will pick up the phone if you call him.
One time he personally got NYC Sanitation truck to clear a street of snow so that a Woodhaven resident's daughter could be taken for dialysis. She was two days past her sheduled procedure because of a blizzard. It's not unreasonable to say he helped save her life.
So I would ask Mr. Adorno to take a different approach than saying Woodhaven has been underserved by Assemblyman Miller.Jul 19, 2012
It's great the neighborhood tracks and beautifies what are virtually entrance ways to community streets. They are on the corners and are one of the first things we see when walking down our streets. Great job Ed and the WRBA.Jul 13, 2012
