  11. article Help make Sandy aid plan fair

    Thursday, March 28, 2013 10:30 am

Imagine if you were one of those people struggling with a mortgage after the housing market collapse, but making your payments. Maybe you cut back heavily on expenses. Maybe you took out an informal loan from a friend or relative. But you managed.

Meanwhile your neighbor down the street let his house go into foreclosure and just waited for the government to ride to his rescue. You weren’t happy about that.

  21. article Comedian Charlie Murphy visits vets

    Thursday, February 14, 2013 10:30 am

Some were in wheelchairs, others lay in beds and some walked with canes, but the veterans at the St. Albans VA center will always be heroes, courageous men and women who served our country and protected our freedoms. That fact is not lost on comedian Charlie Murphy, who visited the servicemembers on Tuesday to thank them for all they had done.

The event was part of National Salute to Veteran Patients Week. Murphy, a Navy veteran, is serving as the chairman for the 2013 festivities, which will include visits from dignitaries, deliveries of Valentine’s Day gifts and cards and performances by various entertainers.

  23. article Picking Out Paints, The Professional Way

    Wednesday, February 13, 2013 8:00 pm

Let us now say a prayer for forced air heating systems. They were good for awhile and kept many homes warm through the years, but let’s now leave these noisy relics in the dust and embrace the wonders of hot water heating systems. To say nothing about the ease of control, hot water heating offers a more evenly held heat and a more palpable heat, seeing as it is based on moisture rather than dry air. Hot water heating makes any home more comforting and welcoming during winter.

The furnaces used in hot water heating can be powered by gas, oil, coal, wood, or electric coil. Typically gravity fed or pumped, the heated water in the boiler travels up to the radiators, and as they disperse the heat, the cooler water travels down to the boiler to be reheated.
