The Jeff Hunt Traditional Shotokan Karate School located at 227-13 Merrick Blvd. in Laurelton, is a faith-based community school which has been servicing the Southeast Queens community since 1996. The curriculum focuses on a strong academic foundation, commitment, integrity and healthy living for children and adults. Discipline is a very important aspect of life and a key characteristic of the school environment. Students at the school not only learn discipline, but they learn to bring honor to their character by bringing respect back to their community and committing to further developing and enhancing their education.

Sensei Jeff Hunt has been serving his community for over 11 years. Hunt teaches karate from a Christian perspective while building character, strength and self control. Hunt is inspired to help prevent people, particularly young men, from following unproductive and/or illegal paths. Learning karate gives students an opportunity to build a bridge with humility and respect so that it will be possible to deal with confrontational situations appropriately. He conducts workshops on gang violence and participates in youth rallies. He is devoted to helping individuals live productive and positive lives.

The Jeff Hunt Traditional Shotokan Karate School is committed to assisting in the fight against obesity and other preventable diseases that are prevalent in our communities. They offer a full comprehensive program that includes diet, exercise and healthy eating. Hunt believes that karate training is a wonderful way to get fit. The Shotokan Karate Program offers age specific classes for children, starting at age four, to adults. It shapes and tones muscles and gives a great cardiovascular workout. The school embarked on the first “Biggest Loser” competition, which inspired almost 32 adults to lose weight, exercise and develop healthier eating habits. This success led to incorporating a cardio fitness component into the classes offered at the school. The cardio fitness program is a “One Stop Shop,” which includes a great cardiovascular workout and a weight management component.

Through participation in this program you will tone and strengthen your abs and muscles and boost your energy level with kickboxing, basic punching and kicking techniques. You will also receive nutrition information with keys and guidelines to healthy eating. Both programs offer core body conditioning exercises for an ultimate workout that will define your body.

The Jeff Hunt Traditional Shotokan Karate School has a team of three instructors and an office manager. The instructors teach adults and children the necessary tools to develop a strong body and mind.
