Exhibits

A Sept. 11 Memorial Exhibit is open at the Poppenhusen Institute, 114-04 14 Rd., College Point, for at least one year. Hours are Monday-Tuesday, 10am-7:30pm, Wednesdays, 10am-3pm, Fridays, 2-6pm and Saturdays, by appointment only.

Auditions

The Community Singers of Queens is holding auditions at Messiah Lutheran Church, 42-15 165 St., Flushing. Voices at all levels are welcome. For more information, call 718-658-1021.

The Sacred Music Chorale of Richmond Hill, rehearsing at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 86-20 114 St. every Saturday from 10am-noon, seeks singers of all voices to join them for Dvorak’s “Stabat Mater” to be presented on Palm Sunday. No tryout is required; rehearsals have already begun. Just come. Dues of $10 and purchase of score, $13, required.

Theatre

“I Hate Hamlet” will be presented at the Astoria Performing Arts Center, 31-30 33 St., on Feb. 14, 15, 21 and 22 at 8pm and Feb. 16 and 23 at 6pm. Tickets are $15, $12 for seniors and students, $5 for kids under 16. For reservations, call 718-278-5925.

The Parkside Players production of “Crimes of the Heart” opens Saturday, Feb. 15 at 8pm. Tickets at $10 are available by calling 718-497-4922. Music

Lessons

The Flushing Camera Club will meet at 7:45pm on Wednesday, Feb. 19 for the club’s monthly competition/critique in the Flushing Hospital’s Administration Bldg., 45 Ave. and Burling St.

NAMI Queens/Nassau will held a meeting on Social Security benefits and work incentives for the mentally ill on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 7:30pm (support group for families of the mentally ill at 6pm) at Hillside Hospital’s Sloman Auditorium, 76 Ave. and 265 St., Glen Oaks.

The causation and effect of genetic diseases on the Jewish population will be addressed at 7:30pm, Wednesday, Feb. 19 at a meeting of SAFAD Chapter of Hadassah at the Reform Temple of Forest Hills, 71-11 112 St. Dr. Arnold Gussin, an expert n such diseases, will discuss procedures.

Nature/Outdoors

Adults and children are invited to join the Urban Park Rangers and learn how to use a compass while navigating the trails of Alley Pond Park on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 1pm, go to the Alley Pond Woodland Nature Center. Enter at Winchester Boulevard, under Grand Central Pkwy.

Join Joseph Varon for a weekly leisure walk. He will alternate between parts of the Doug MacKay Trail, parts of the Joe Michaels Memorial Mile and Oakland Lake. Sorry no strollers. It will feature a film, “The Assisi Underground” which details the efforts of the Catholic Church and the citizens of the Italian town of Assisi in their efforts to save Jews from the invading Nazis.
