Dear Editor:

Will the general practitioner in urban areas go the way of dinosaurs and become extinct?

Specialization for humans appears to be the “way to go” in today’s world. My husband, now a retired general practitioner, performed quite a few procedures on patients, including delivering babies! Today, most women go to obstetricians and other specialists for their care.

When my spouse happens to meet ex-patients in stores and such, they enthusiastically praise him for the wonderful caring attention they received from him.

My goodness, he also made house calls!
