Dear Editor:

(An open letter to “Dear, sweet Sandy”)

You sure gave us the business. Never have I seen anything like you before, and I’ve lived here in Broad Channel for over 90 years. I thought the 1939 and 1960 storms were bad, but nothing compared to you. And I hope I never see anything like you again as long as I live.

I lost everything to you. A contractor wants $50,000 to fix up my shack. But what do I do for furniture? I only get a small Social Security check to live on.

But I can’t complain, for I know a lot of people have it worse than me. Praise the Lord, I’m still alive, and that’s what counts.
