Intelligent taxpayers agree with your excellent editorial “The homeowner rebate will have to wait” (the Queens Chronicle, Nov. 27).Mayor Bloomberg offers solutionsin facing a potential $4 billion dollar shortfall this year bydelaying rebates, while others are more concerned about positioning themselves for future elective office.
NYC Council Finance Committee Chairperson and 2009 candidate for NYC Comptroller David Weprin and other Council colleagues positionsupporting rebatesspeaks volumes.Just how does Councilmember Weprin propose finding the $256 million to support this refund? His naive belief that both Albany and Washington will come to the rescue makes no sense. They have their ownrespective budget shortfallsin the tens of billions and hundreds of billions.
Bob Schieffer, on his “Face the Nation” program Sunday, made mention of the horrific death of the Wal-Mart clerk in Valley Stream, Long Island who was trampled by the crowd as the doors were opened on Black Friday. To add to this, they screamed out to those trying to close the door after this incident that they had been waiting for hours. In his commentary, Mr. Schieffer brought up the fact that even with our economic downturn, foreclosures, etc., this horrific incident makes one think that America is indeed in deep trouble.
I myself have never even entertained the thought of participating in getting up at 4 a.m. to Christmas shop. One does wonder just what this band of morons was after. Frankly, this country of ours is on a slippery slope, soon to be over the cliff if this behavior continues. Deep sympathy to the family of Mr.Damour.
Terrorism has raised its ugly head aganist the citizens of Mumbai, India with much death and destruction. The war against peace loving people never ends, and the innocent ones are forced to pay the price. Madrid, London and the United States have been attacked by those who hate freedom and Democracy and the question is who is next? Now, our heartfelt prayers go out to our freedom loving brothers and sisters in India who were attacked by the forces of evil.
The United States must band togetheir with other nations to destroy those evil doers who use religion to perpetrate their egregious and nefarious acts against humanity.
I was in a convenience store in Bellerose today and spoke to a clerk there who is from Mumbai and still has family and friends from the region. He tells me he is concerned about the events that have taken place. I told him I would keep him in my prayers in hope that everything would be alright for those he holds dear. I guess as an average citizens that may be all we can do at this point. Remember this though: Evil thrives when good men and women do nothing. That I believe goes for nations as well.

The recent massacre resulting in almost 200 dead and 500 injured at the hands of a handful of Islamic extremists in Mumbai, India which started on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at around 9:30 p.m. was another attempt to hurt India and its tremendous economic growth. Their immediate goal was to draw attention to India’s unpreparedness for such dastardly acts and so hurt the growth. To kill Americans, British and Israelis including a Rabbi and his wife was to further emphasize hatred for the West and the Jews.
India has been home to Jews for more than 2,000 years where Jews including myself have lived peacefully and in harmony with all faiths. We have had more than 29 synagogues, the first being built in 1144. Though now there are less than 5,000 Jews in India with synagogues in predominantly Muslim localities, acts of terrorism were unknown.
Now, to have outside sadists disturb the peaceful structure of India’s acceptance of all faiths is one of cowardice and jealousy.
These terrorists, whether connected to any government or not, need to be rooted out with all the forces of the unified world. Otherwise the absurd dreams of such madmen who dream of a global Islamization will become the standard call to those who can be easily brain-washed with money and arms given to impoverished children, young men and women.
Yesterday, it was America that was attacked; today it is India, tomorrow who knows? How long will this madness continue to realize global destabilization and destruction? Why can’t these energies be utilized for peace and understanding in the world to create a new global community where brother helps brother to better their lives rather than destroy one another?
I, as an Indian born Jew who cherishes the roots of my country and the city of Mumbai where I was born and studied, deplore these acts of bloodthirstiness where holy people who profess the same forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are tortured and mutilated by evil agents of Satan. This is not prescribed in any Holy Book.
These terrorists and their masters will be answerable to a higher authority, the almighty, the greatest judge.

(Open letter to the Panzarella family)
Dear Panzarella Family:
I was so very pleased to read of the triangle being named in honor of Attillio W. Panzarella, the patriarch of your family. Although I only met him briefly with his lovely wife at a social function, we spoke on the telephone many times after that in reference to community concerns.
This man was a true icon, and all of Queens and New York City owe him a debt of gratitude for his dedication, strength and devotion to his community, which was legend.
It was an honor and a privilege to have known him.
