Councilman Danny Dromm (D- Jackson Heights) said a trucker in front of the Trade Fair supermarket in Jackson Heights charged him, stole his cellphone and refused to return it on Wednesday afternoon.

The councilman was attempting to take a picture of the man's illegally double parked 18-wheeler on 37th Avenue and 75th Street when the incident occurred. Police arrested the truck driver.

Problems of traffic congestion and pedestrian safety have plagued Jackson Heights for a long time, Dromm said, and as a reaction he would like the city to better enforce existing traffic laws.

“We are trying to make our community a better place in which to live and do business and we will not tolerate lawbreakers,” Dromm said.
