Police arrested a substitute teacher in Flushing Wednesday after complaints were filed that she physically abused a student.

Grace Peterson-Hagendorf, 59, was charged with assault on a minor following an incident in which she allegedly pushed one of her students at PS 22 into a chair, causing pain and swelling. Peterson-Hagendorf worked as a substitute teacher at the Flushing school.

Peterson-Hagendorf has been removed from the classroom pending the outcome of the case.

A spokesperson for the United Federation of Teachers declined to comment on the incident while the investigation was still taking place.

The arrest comes after a string of incidents in which teachers have been arrested. Peterson-Hagendorf is the ninth public school employee to be arrested since the beginning of the year.
