Barbara Sheehan, the Howard Beach mother who was recently acquitted of murdering her husband but faces sentencing on a weapons conviction, was released from Rikers Island on bail Monday.
At a bail hearing at Queens Supreme Court in Kew Gardens on Monday, the $1 million bond Sheehan, 50, had posted after shooting her ex-cop husband, Raymond Sheehan, in 2008 was reinstated. An appeals judge in Brooklyn ruled last Tuesday that she did not need to be jailed while waiting for her sentencing.
Sheehan had been at Rikers Island since Oct. 12.
"I thank God every day that they believed in me, and they believed my story and they believed my children because the story was the truth and they believed the truth," Sheehan said of the jury to 1010 WINS on Monday.
During the trial that wrapped up earlier this month, Sheehan said she had shot her husband in self defense after he allegedly pointed a gun at her and told her he was going to kill her — a move that followed nearly two decades of alleged physical and emotional abuse.
