Seeing a dentist is more than just a pain in the mouth for some. Hearing the bad news that a tooth has to be pulled out or having to pay a high out-of-pocket expense turn many people off from even visiting one to get their teeth checked. CitiDental, an emergency and general dental practice in Ozone Park, is hoping to change that image.
Eli Schmidt, the general manager of CitiDental, took the assignment after he replaced the previous management a year ago. He set out to tweak all the wrongs, including pricing and customer service.
The fees now charged, compared with competitors are much lower, even if it “may not be economically feasible or right for the office,” the manager said.
The office performs cosmetic dentistry at affordable prices, including teeth whitening, bleaching, porcelain veneers and porcelain crowns.
Dr. Marina Shraga, one of the dentists who practices there with Dr. Krista McKenzie, points to the Invisalign braces that many dentists use as an alternative to metal ones. As it is considered a cosmetic procedure, many insurers don’t cover it. While many charge $6,000, Shraga said CitiDental is pricing them at $4,000.
“It’s a real cash savings. It’s not a gimmick,” she said.
The practice’s goal is to improve customer service. If there are any complaints or concerns, management is there to listen and make sure the employees represent themselves respectfully.
“What they do and what they say is the face of this office,” Shraga said. “We’re accessible. We’re not going to hide.”
The office uses the latest techniques and technologies and the best materials to make patients feel comfortable.
Unlike many dental practices, CitiDental is open on Saturdays, which is one of the busiest days.
For emergencies, CitiDental suggests people call and the first available appointment will be made.
The office’s latest campaign is to promote oral health and awareness. Shraga pointed out that going to a dentist every six months might just save your life.
“All the diseases and all the infections, from cancers to everything else starts in the mouth,” she noted. “The dentist is the first person who could potentially spot it.”
Shraga stated seeing a doctor is important, but stressed that the value of seeing a dentist can be even more important. “I don’t want to take away from other doctors or physicians. But probably getting somebody to look inside your mouth is as important, if not more important than going to go to your physician for a checkup.”
The office is now offering a special of $99 for x-rays, cleaning and a checkup for people without insurance. It accepts most insurances for others.
CitiDental is located at 101-49 Woodhaven Blvd. in Ozone Park. Call (718)-865-8111 to make an appointment. There is free parking. The office is open Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
