‘Tis the Season in Sunnyside
On Thursday, Dec. 1, the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce and area
residents held a a special event kicking off the second annual
Skillman Avenue Lights. Last year marked the first season in over
20 years that Skillman Avenue had holiday lights, thanks to the
efforts of Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer (D-Sunnyside), the Sunnyside
Chamber of Commerce and other citizens. Festive snowflakes now
dot the avenue from lampposts from 43rd to 53rd streets, an
expansion of four additional blocks from last year. This year’s
lighting ceremony featured live performances by renowned singer
Paul Byrom, the Sunnyside Drum Corps and the Queen of Angels Choir.
Hot cocoa and apple cider were provided by the neighborhood’s
Aubergine Cafe.
