Queens Library CEO Tom Galante remained in his position as of Thursday night when a vote on a measure to put him on temporary paid leave ended in a 9-9 tie. A 19th trustee was absent. Failure to pass the measure by a majority vote automatically defeated it. Galante left the meeting, held at the library's main building on Merrick Boulevard in Jamaica, without comment. Galante and then library's finances have come under scrutiny in their wake of news reports detailing his pay and his stated hours per week both at their library and as a consultant for a Long Island school district. City Comptroller Scott Stringer announced last month that his office us auditing there library systems in Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan. Ibrahim Khan, chief of staff to Public Advocate Letitia James and her representative on the library's board of Trustees said afterward that the vote would not have ended in a tie had he and other ex officio members of the board were allowed to vote, as he said they are in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
