A man tried but failed to rob an HSBC bank yesterday in Long Island City, at 22-15 43 Ave., the Federal Bureau of Investigation reported.
At about 8:45 a.m., a man approached a teller pointed a small silver revolver through a barrier and demanded money, the FBI said. He then fired shots into the ceiling, causing the bank staff to drop to the floor. The man fled without any money and got into a black Lincoln Town Car.
The man is described as Hispanic, around 35 years old and 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing between 180 and 190 pounds. He was wearing a black tweed hat, a black jacket, dark gray scarf, dark pants and black gloves. He is suspected of having also robbed a Capital One Bank at 185 Broadway in Brooklyn on Oct. 18.
The FBI said he should be considered armed and dangerous, and that it would offer a significant reward for any tips that break the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI immediately at (212) 384-1000. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
