Astoria and the other from the 114th Precinct in Jackson Heights, were arrested last Wednesday for accepting bribes.

Danny Cano, 37, and Roberto Espinal, 44, were charged with receiving bribes of between $40 and $1,500 and with official misconduct.

Allegedly the officers took the money in return for official NYPD accident reports used to manipulate insurance claims. According to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown, the cops were not in cahoots with each other.

“What they allegedly did have in common was that they both tarnished their NYPD badges by exploiting the misfortune of others to unjustly enrich themselves,” Brown said.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly commended the NYPD for the internal investigation.

Bail was set at $15,000 cash or $15,000 bond for Cano and $10,000 cash or $2,500 bond for Espinal. The defendants, who each face up to seven years in prison if convicted, were ordered to return to court on Oct. 9.
