St. Patrick’s Day came a bit early with the St. Pat’s for All Parade on Sunday, which kicked off at Skillman Avenue and 47th Street in Sunnyside at 1 p.m. The festivities lasted through the evening, when a reception and benefit concert were held after the parade at the Irish Arts Center in Manhattan.
In Sunnyside, paraders celebrating the wearin’ o’ the green marched to Woodside Avenue and 58th Street, with many area politicians as well as Mayor Bloomberg showing their support in opening remarks or participating in the parade itself.
First organized in 2000, St. Pat’s for All aims to be an inclusive celebration of Irish heritage, and welcomes anyone to participate, “regardless of race, gender, creed or sexual orientation,” the parade’s website says.
