We may be well into the spring, but it looks a little like winter at Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City.
Last Friday, as visitors walked into the park, they were greeted by “snowflakes” falling all around. Several visitors to the park said they thought it was part of an art exhibit, but the “flakes” are actually seeds falling from a cottonwood tree, right, near the “Queen Mother of Reality” sculpture. The spores piled up near benches and statues around the park’s entrance, resembling accumulating snow.
“It happens once a year and comes from the same tree,” one of the employees said. “It’s pretty cool.
