A 22-year-old man was arrested Monday for lighting several piles of garbage and the car of a former councilman on fire early Sunday morning, police said.

Devon Page, who lives a couple blocks from the incidents, was charged with five counts of arson.

Former Sunnyside councilman Eric Gioia's SUV went up in flames while it was sitting in his driveway across from Sunnyside Garden Park on 49th Street and 39th Avenue. Police responded at 5 a.m. on Sunday, but did not suspect that the politician was specifically targeted.

"We are fine! The car not so much," Gioia posted on Facebook, "Just went up fast while sitting in my driveway."

Two rubbish fires were found on the block and two more on 50th Street and 39th Avenue.

Police have video footage of the alleged arsonist.
