Police made their way to Steinway Street twice in response to a murder and a burglary on Friday.

At 11:33 p.m. they responded to a murder in an apartment on Steinway and 25th Avenue. According to a police spokeswoman, officers arrived to find Mrwan Said, 28, stabbed in the neck with the wound reaching his heart. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, dead on arrival.

Wahid Elawame, 35, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon. He was also charged with kidnapping, as he allegedly would not allow the remaining two occupants of the apartment to leave. Elawame was drinking in his apartment with the victim when the situation escalated, police said. He is being held without bail.

In the early morning at 3:45 a.m. on Friday a man entered a dentist’s office though an unlocked window on Steinway between Broadway and 34th Avenue. The suspect removed a laptop, syringes and some dental equipment. The burglar is described as weighing about 150 pounds.

Anyone with information about either perpetrator is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
