The MTA said rumors of the Q101 bus, which runs through Astoria to East Midtown, Manhattan via Steinway Street, being discontinued are absolutely false.

According to the MTA’s website, spokesman and the office of Councilman Peter Vallone (D-Astoria), the popular line has not and will not be among the number of bus lines around the city being taken off the streets for good.

This contradicts a recent rumor accusing the MTA of phasing out the line with no notice and without holding a town hall meeting or public hearing as it is required to do. The agency assured residents that there are no plans to drop the line.

“Service on the Q101 remains unchanged,” an MTA spokesman said.

It is unclear who started the rumor and why.

The MTA said it had heard about the rumor as well but suggested residents check the MTA website for up-to-date information on trains and buses.

A recently updated bus schedule for the Q101 has been published and is available to the public at mta.info.
