A 29-year-old man was struck and killed in a hit and run on Astoria Boulevard on Christmas morning.

Early on Dec. 25, police responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian struck.

According to police, officers arrived at 4:30 a.m.

Enrique Clemente-Ovando, who lived on Benham Street in Elmhurst, was found unconscious and unresponsive with severe trauma to the body.

EMS responded and transported the victim to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A preliminary investigation determined a vehicle, possibly a beige Toyota Camry with a Pennsylvania registration, was traveling eastbound on Astoria Boulevard and struck Clemente-Ovando in front of 103-08 Astoria Blvd. in East Elmhurst.

The victim was attempting to cross the street and the vehicle did not remain at the scene.

His family has been notified.

It is unclear whether the car or Clemente-Ovando had the right of way, but an investigation is ongoing.

Welcome to the discussion.
