Arranger and transcriber Sylvie Yannello recently launched her independent sheet music publishing venture with the release of her first five piano/vocal/chord arrangements this week.

The pieces are five songs by Elvis Costello that have never been available as sheet music. “The Loved Ones,” “The Invisible Man,” “Lovable,” “Poisoned Rose” and “Blue Chair” can all be purchased through Yannello’s website.

“After ‘A Singing Dictionary’ covered his first five albums, notated publication of Elvis Costello’s music is very sporadic,” Yanello said. “The album ‘Spike’ was published as a complete book and his Toussaint collaboration ‘The River in Reverse’ was published in a very excellent arrangement.

“But aside from a few albums published in their entirety, mostly all you can find is whatever individual titles made it into the ‘best of’ anthology. I would like to see a much more complete treatment of Elvis’ catalogue.”

She hopes to one day publish a piano and vocal notation book of Costello’s “Trust” within the next year or so.

Yanello is a professional pianist, drummer and music teacher in Long Island City

“The Loved Ones” features cover artwork created specifically for her edition by the artist Fergus O’Donoghue of Norwich, UK, design company Creative Hat.

O’Donoghue responded to Yannello in an Elvis Costello fan forum to create original cover art for the project.

According to Yannello, he took his inspiration for Costello’s abstract portal from the “Imperial Bedroom” album cover which also employs a Picasso-esque style.
